Accessibility

It is estimated that about 20% of the adult population are covered by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA).  That is around 11 million people who have an estimated annual spending power of £80 billion.

A disabled person under the DDA is one with a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long term adverse effect on his/her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.

Part III of the DDA requires that all organisations that provide a service to the public make reasonable adjustments to any physical features of their premises that may prevent people from accessing those services. In order to identify the physical barriers that exist the Disability Rights Commission recommends that service providers have an access audit done. Bravanark can do an audit for you.

Whether you charge for your services or provide them for free; whether you own your premises or rent them; whether you don't operate out of premises at all; whether you are a small organisation or a large conglomerate you will have responsibilities under the DDA to make reasonable adjustments to the physical aspects of your service.

For further information about accessibility and the DDA read our accessiblity web pages, call 01189541700 or email access@bravanark.co.uk.

WHY IS HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING IMPORTANT?
£30BN lost each year to the economy due to the failure of employers providing adequate health and safety training

Health and Safety training at all levels is important to ensure that all employees are competent to carry out their tasks in a safe manner.

The Health and Safety Executive have published several leaflets that explain the importance of health and safety training to owners and managers of businesses. It gives advice on who may need training, what form the training may take and how to organise it.

Health and safety law says:
• employees must be trained and clearly instructed in their duties;
• employers and host companies must ensure contractors are properly trained to work safely.
